Shearers History

Shearer Contracting is a Civil Construction and Earthmoving company based in Singleton NSW.

The company has been in operations for over 75 years and over this time Shearer Contracting has built a reputation for reliability, rapid response and high quality workmanship throughout the Hunter Valley.

Today’s modern and high tech company was developed on the foundation of the pioneering earthmoving firm, of W.A Shearer Pty Ltd. Founder WalShearer established the firm at Singleton during the 1930’s to provide earthmoving services to rural and residential land developers.

The company quickly developed into one of the foremost earthmoving operators in the Hunter Valley and was involved in major projects such as the development of the Singleton Army Base, Clean-up operations after the 1955 Hunter River flood, construction of the Liddell power station and the growth of the coal-mining industry.

Shearers Present

Shearer Contracting has now expanded into a multi faced organisation able to carry out substantial engineering projects – from initial survey and design through to completion. Recently having completed the Liddell Infrastructure project as both the contractor for General Earthworks as well as the Principle Contractor with the responsibility for construction of $9,000,000.00 in general works.

Shearer Contracting owns and operates in excess of 30 items of plant including Dozers, Excavators, Graders, Loaders, Rollers, Watercarts, Backhoes, Compactors, Trucks and mobile screening plants.

Shearer Contracting Personnel are Competent and Experienced and we can boast a workforce with exceptional skills and have developed a culture of learning and innovation.

Shearer Contracting had a turnover in excess of $18 million last year and has been in the same majority ownership for the past 40 years. We have never been involved in any disputes weather commercial or technical, have never defaulted in any financial agreement and have never had any action taken against us in regards to a bank agreement.
